Our take

This is the safari we point first-timers to because the vehicle rule — six guests, pop-up roof — is the thing that decides whether you see animals or the back of someone's head. Four parks in nine days is a full pace with real driving on rough roads, and Globus's notes are clear that game viewing is at your own risk with a signed waiver. Timing matters: the Great Migration is typically in the Mara from August to early November, and the departures reflect that.

Highlights

  • 1 UNESCO World Heritage site on the route: Kenya Lake System in the Great Rift Valley
  • 4 game drives in Maasai Mara National Reserve with a farewell dinner in the bush with traditional Maasai dance performance
  • 4-wheel-drive safari vehicle, limited to just 6 guests and equipped with a pop-up roof for unfettered game viewing
  • 8 nights in listed hotels, 8 breakfasts, 7 lunches, 7 dinners, Tour Director throughout
  • 12 departures currently open across 2027, from $6,334 per person, land only — flights from home not included

Who this trip suits

  • First-time safari travelers who want a full itinerary with every meal and drive included
  • Photographers — six per vehicle with a pop-up roof
  • Couples and small groups who like lodges and tented camps rather than one big hotel
  • Travelers who want the Migration window (August to early November) built into the dates

Who should look elsewhere

  • Anyone with back problems or who cannot tolerate hours on rough roads — Globus warns about it
  • Travelers who need guaranteed comforts every night; tented camps are comfortable but not hotels
  • People uneasy about small internal flights
  • Those on a tight budget; safari is the most expensive category in our catalog

Good to know

Great Migration
The Great Migration is a natural event with herds typically in the Maasai Mara from August to early November. Movements and river crossings of migrating herds can be challenging to predict year to year. When possible, we’ll modify game viewing when advised of reported sightings.
Game drives
All game viewing is done at your own risk and requires a signed liability waiver prior to travel. Due to rough driving on/off road and in/between game parks, this vacation is not recommended for guests with serious back problems or mobility issues. The safari vehicles are not air conditioned and have high ground clearance, requiring some agility when getting in and out.
Operator's note
Some internal flights have a strict maximum guest weight limit of 265 lbs. / 120 kgs. Any guests weighing more than the limit may be required to purchase an additional seat. Globus Tour Operations must be advised of any guests weighing more than the limit prior to final payment to ensure space can be confirmed.
Group size
Standard departures travel by full-size coach. Departures marked Small Group on the dates table are Globus Small Group Discoveries, capped at a smaller group and priced higher.
Price basis
Per person, based on two sharing a room, land only — flights from home not included. Hotels are as listed or similar.
Start and finish

Questions we get about this trip

Is airfare included?

No. Every price on this page is land-only. We quote flights from Fort Lauderdale or Miami with your dates, and Globus can add airport transfers when the air is on their booking.

Is the Great Migration guaranteed?

No. Globus's own note says herds are typically in the Maasai Mara from August to early November and that movements are hard to predict; guides adjust game drives when sightings are reported.

Do we need a visa or shots?

U.S. passport holders need Kenya's online travel authorization (eTA) before arrival. Yellow fever and malaria precautions depend on your route and health history — talk to a travel doctor early; we send the current requirements when you book.

How much walking is there?

Expect guided walking tours most days, often on cobbles, steps and uneven ground. If that is a concern, tell us before you commit and we will talk it through rather than hope for the best.

Which dates are cheapest?

Prices vary by departure — the dates table on this page is read from Globus's own feed, so what you see is current. Shoulder-season departures are usually the lower-priced ones; any Small Group departures cost more.

What if we need to cancel?

Globus's published terms apply and the fee schedule depends on the departure and whether air is booked through them. We link the terms rather than restate them, and we walk you through the exact figures on your reservation before you pay a deposit.

Cancellation policy

Globus' published Travel Terms & Conditions apply. Deposit amounts, final payment dates and the cancellation fee schedule vary by product and departure date, and differ again for air booked through Globus; the exact figures are confirmed on your reservation. Full terms: globusjourneys.com/terms
