Our take

For a first look at Egypt this is the shape we would build ourselves: two nights in Cairo for Giza and the new museum, four nights on the river where the temples come to you, then back to Cairo. The Nile cruise is what makes Egypt manageable — you unpack once and the sites line up along the bank. Expect early starts on cruise days, hot afternoons and a lot of standing on ancient stone; Globus's own note says some visits begin early to beat the heat.

Highlights

  • 2 UNESCO World Heritage sites on the route: Historic Cairo, The Pyramid Fields of Giza
  • Cruise on a felucca (traditional wooden sailing boat) around Kitchener’s Island and the Mausoleum of Aga Khan at Aswan
  • Guided sightseeing tour in Luxor with visit to the Karnak and Luxor Temples, and the Avenue of the Sphinxes
  • 8 nights in listed hotels, 8 breakfasts, 4 lunches, 6 dinners, Tour Director throughout
  • 28 departures currently open across 2027, from $2,769 per person, land only — flights from home not included

Who this trip suits

  • First-time visitors to Egypt who want the Pyramids and the Nile in one week and change
  • Travelers who would rather unpack once than hop hotels — four of the nine nights are on the ship
  • Couples and friends who like a Tour Director on the ground in a country where logistics are the hard part
  • History lovers: Karnak, Luxor, Edfu and Kom Ombo with a Local Guide at each

Who should look elsewhere

  • Anyone who struggles with heat or early mornings — cruise-day visits start early on purpose
  • Travelers who need step-free access; temple sites and the ship's gangways are not built for it
  • People who want the West Bank (Valley of the Kings) included — it is an optional excursion on Day 4, not part of the base tour
  • Those uneasy about internal flights — there are two

Questions we get about this trip

Is airfare included?

No. Every price on this page is land-only. We quote flights from Fort Lauderdale or Miami with your dates, and Globus can add airport transfers when the air is on their booking.

Is the Valley of the Kings included?

No. Day 4 leaves Luxor free, and the West Bank — Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut's temple — is offered as an optional excursion. We flag this because most people assume it is in the base price.

What is the ship?

Globus lists the Mövenpick MS Royal Lily for the cruise portion, in a deluxe cabin with twin beds that convert to a double, private bathroom and panoramic windows. Ships can change; we confirm at booking.

How much walking is there?

Expect guided walking tours most days, often on cobbles, steps and uneven ground. If that is a concern, tell us before you commit and we will talk it through rather than hope for the best.

Which dates are cheapest?

Prices vary by departure — the dates table on this page is read from Globus's own feed, so what you see is current. Shoulder-season departures are usually the lower-priced ones; any Small Group departures cost more.

What if we need to cancel?

Globus's published terms apply and the fee schedule depends on the departure and whether air is booked through them. We link the terms rather than restate them, and we walk you through the exact figures on your reservation before you pay a deposit.

Cancellation policy

Globus' published Travel Terms & Conditions apply. Deposit amounts, final payment dates and the cancellation fee schedule vary by product and departure date, and differ again for air booked through Globus; the exact figures are confirmed on your reservation. Full terms: globusjourneys.com/terms
