Getting to Orlando from Parkland

The drive-versus-fly math

Orlando is about three hours up the Turnpike. Flying FLL to MCO is an hour in the air and roughly a wash door-to-door once you add bag drop, security and the wait at the other end — and since Disney retired the free Magical Express in 2022, that other end means a paid shuttle per person each way or a rental car you park all week. For a family of four or more, driving usually wins on cost and always wins on flexibility.

The exception is the multi-generational trip, which is most of what we book here. Once three households are arriving from three places, the question stops being drive-or-fly and becomes arrival spread: Disney dining reservations open 60 days out and are booked against the whole party, so the last household to lock its dates is the one setting everyone else's dinner times.

In the community

On Thursday, October 29 2026 we’re presenting a free hour on group and multigenerational travel for the City of Parkland’s senior program — family reunions, trips with friends, and getaways with the grandkids. Parks & Recreation hosts and registers it; we bring the talk, the activity and the refreshments. See what we cover.

Parkland departure math

  • Closest cruise port: Port Everglades (35 min)
  • Airports: FLL (30 min) · MIA (50 min) · PBI (40 min)
  • Drive to Walt Disney World: ~3 hours via FL Turnpike

The drive-to-port advantage is the biggest single thing that makes cruising the right call from Parkland — no flights, no pre-cruise hotel, no airline-disruption risk. We book a lot of them.
