Which All-Inclusive Resort Brand Is Right for You? (2026 Guide)

Travel Connects10 min read

All-inclusive resorts are sold by brand, and that's the key to choosing well. Each brand is built around a very specific traveler — a honeymoon couple, a family with toddlers, a bachelorette group — and once you know who's going, the right brand mostly falls out on its own.

This is the framework we use when a client asks us to help them choose. If you'd rather answer six quick questions and get a shortlist, we built a free All-Inclusive Resort Matcher that does exactly that. Either way, here's how the major brands actually differ.

Start with who's traveling

The biggest fork is whether kids are coming, because several of the best-known brands are adults-only: Secrets, Excellence, Breathless, Hyatt Zilara, and Sandals. The moment a child is in the party, those drop off the list.

And here's the single most common mix-up we fix: Sandals is couples-only — two people, 18 and over, no exceptions. If you have kids and you were picturing Sandals, the brand you actually want is its family sister, Beaches — same luxury, plus waterparks, Sesame Street characters, kids' camps, and included scuba.

The brands, by who they're for

Couples & honeymoons

Sandals includes more in the base price than any other brand — scuba, premium spirits, watersports, tips — and it's couples-only, in the Caribbean only. It's the splurge-and-forget-your-wallet choice. Secrets is the romantic adults-only brand at a friendlier rate, with a much broader Mexico-and-Caribbean footprint. Excellence is adults-only luxury built around the best dining in the all-inclusive world. And Hyatt Zilara is the calm, boutique, adults-only option — with World of Hyatt points if you collect them.

Families

Beaches is the luxury family pick (Sandals quality, built for kids). Dreams and Hyatt Ziva are the mid-range family workhorses — strong kids' clubs, still pleasant for the adults. Club Med includes more activities than anyone (trapeze, sports, all-ages kids' clubs) and is the only major brand that also does ski and Europe. Moon Palace is a mega-resort with a waterpark and resort credits — a lot under one roof.

Value

RIU and Iberostar are the value leaders: big, lively beachfront resorts at a friendlier price. Iberostar is usually a step up in food and grounds, while RIU is known for its energetic swim-up-bar scene.

Friends & celebrations

Breathless is the party-forward adults-only brand — DJ pool parties, nightlife, and a social scene purpose-built for bachelorette and girls' trips, mostly in Cancún and Punta Cana.

Two things worth clearing up

Sandals is not a family resort. It's the most common assumption we correct. Couples go to Sandals; families go to Beaches.

True all-inclusives are rare in Hawaii. The all-inclusive market lives in Mexico (Cancún, Riviera Maya, Los Cabos) and the Caribbean (Punta Cana, Jamaica, Turks). If your heart is set on Hawaii, the honest move is a resort with dining and activity credits rather than a true all-inclusive — we'll set that up a different way. For a deeper regional comparison, see All-Inclusive Resorts: Caribbean vs Mexico vs Hawaii.

Match by vibe

Romance & quiet → Sandals, Secrets, Excellence, Hyatt Zilara. Family fun → Beaches, Dreams, Hyatt Ziva, Club Med, Moon Palace. Party & nightlife → Breathless. Luxury & refined → Sandals, Beaches, Excellence. Best bang for the buck → RIU, Iberostar.

A quick word on budget

Roughly: RIU and Iberostar at the value end; Dreams in the middle; Secrets, Breathless, Hyatt Ziva and Zilara, Club Med, and Moon Palace at premium; Sandals, Beaches, and Excellence at the luxury end. But all-inclusive pricing swings hugely by resort, room category, season, and promotion — so we price the real options for you rather than guessing from brand reputation.
